Mark 7-8. Jesus continues to heal the sick, feed the hungry, and battle the hypocrisy of the Pharisees, but His disciples seem to be unaware of the significance of His purpose in their own lives.

Mark 6. Jesus’s compassion prompts Him to feed the 5000, while the disciples’ disdain for the crowd exposes their lack of faith in Him.

Mark 5. Jesus heals a demonic on the other side of the sea but is asked to leave by the community there. Upon his return, he is welcomed by two very different people with similar needs, whose shared faith in Jesus brought healing.

Mark 3-4. Jesus continues His ministry, healing the sick and teaching about the Kindom of God.

Mark 1-2. Jesus is baptized by John. He preaches the gospel, calls disciples, and performs miracles.

Matthew 28. He is risen — just as He said!

Matthew 27. Jesus dies on the cross.

Matthew 26. Jesus holds a Passover meal with the disciples, predicts an act of treachery, and introduces the sacrament of communion.

Matthew 25. Jesus teaches about preparing for the Lord’s return.

Matthew 24. Jesus begins to describe a time when He will be gone from the earth and the disciples will be on their own.

Matthew 22-23. Jesus issues severe warnings to the Pharisees about their hypocrisy, gives direction about our responsibility to pagan governments, and sums up the entire body of work known as the law and the prophets in 2 simple commands.

Matthew 20-21. Jesus interacts with children and teaches about how their demeanor is necessary to enter the kingdom. We see the triumphant entry into Jerusalem as the symbolic Passover lamb.

Matthew 18-19. Jesus teaches about the beauty, simplicity, and preciousness of little children. He also has a heartbreaking conversation with an adult whose grip on “things” has prevented that child-like faith from taking root in his life.

Matthew 16-17. Jesus continues to confront and challenge the hypocrisy and greed of the Pharisees while revealing more of his divine mission to his band of apostles. Peter’s confession of faith is proclaimed by Jesus as the bedrock foundation upon which He will build his church.

Matthew 14-15. Jesus walks on water and feeds the 5000. While preparing to feed the crowd, Jesus chose the loaves, blessed the loaves, broke the loaves, then gave the loaves to the hungry crowd. We see this same pattern in the lives of many Bible examples like Abraham, Joseph, Moses, David, and the Lord Jesus. We can expect the same in our lives.

Matthew 13-14. Jesus begins teaching in parables, feeds the 5000, and walks on the water. What a man! What a savior!

Matthew 12. Jesus asserts His authority over the Sabbath, which angers the Pharisees. Their understanding of why God chose their nation to be His special people is hidden to them, and it’s this misguided belief that begins to drive a wedge between what they believe and what Jesus reveals about the true purpose of their relationship with God.

Matthew 10-11. His eye is on the sparrow, and He gives rest to those of us who are heavy-hearted, and trying to remedy that on our own just leads to more heartache and misery. Oddly, it’s by giving up our lives that we find them.

Matthew 8-9. Jesus begins his day-to-day interactions with his world by proclaiming that His Kingdom is for Gentiles (like us), too. He shows his power over nature by calming the storm. He shows his power over life by healing the lame. And he shows His power over death by raising a dead girl. All evidence of His rightful place as King.

Matthew 6-7. The model prayer and the confliction of good works vs grace.
